Ugo Untoro — founder of Museum dan Tanah Liat — was born in Purbalingga, Central Java, in 1970. He graduated from the School of Painting of the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta, in 1996.
He participated in many group exhibitions, including the Best of the Philip Morris Art Awards, the CP Art Space of Washington, D.C., USA, and the Indonesian Biennals of Jakarta and Yogyakarta since 1996.
